Christine also participates in family meeting such as when a family member has an interest in speaking with her about their loved one that is living in the facility. While in attendance at the multiple meetings that Christine attends, she plays the role not only of a facilitator but also of a group member. When Christine is attending a meeting with family members she is acting as the facilitator. When Christine is attending a meeting with co-workers she is acting as a simple group member. The functions of the group are different depending upon the purpose of the meeting. The family and resident meetings occur approximately every six months. This meeting is used to address issues that may be ongoing or are for one time orders. Some of the issues that are addressed at the family meetings are that of an order for “Do not resuscitate” or any other issue that the resident or their family is concerned with. The family group meets every six months to address the issues. The meetings with co-works can vary in their frequency. The co-worker meetings can be held monthly, biweekly, or every 6 months. The co-worker meetings are held to discuss changes that may need to be made, how work has been, as well as to discuss any issues at hand. Christine informed me that compassion and caring are important. Christine instructed me that it is difficult at times to work in a hospice and witness people in the last moments of their life. Since this interview I have had two residents pass away during my work time. On the first occasion I witnessed Christine speaking with the family.
