SNC was very diligent in ensuring that all information and additional information was passed to the fire team, at one point causing SNC to stumble over his thought process, and pause for a length of time to recoup his thoughts before moving on. Candidate Collins briefed a very thorough brief. His brief included the tasking of each fire team member, however, it was briefed during the wrong paragraph. SNC's brief was so thorough it took over half of time away from mission accomplishment. He did not address security nor did he implement security. While executing the mission, SNC made adjustements to his plan rather quickly. Candidate Quarta stated each paragraph of the 5-paragraph order, however his delivery was poor and lacked enthusiasm and assertion. SNC read directly from his notepad and made no effort to make eye contact with his fire team members despite them looking at him. SNC stumbled through the execution paragraph, telling one of his fire team members to "disregard" his previous tasking statement. This caused confusion amongst his fire team and delayed the execution of the problem, as his fire team still had questions following the brief. She maintained good eye contact with the members of her team and was confident in her delivery. SNC failed to brief any of the "admin and logistics" and "command and signal" paragraphs. Although Candidate Garnica briefed a scheme of maneuver during the brief, it was obvious that she had not created an actual plan before beginning the execution. He lacked in confidence and when he was not sure of his azimuth he guessed a number and gave it to his fire team member responsible for the navigation. The state of California has a program that allows inmates from prison to be put through a two week course so they can help fight wildfires. Normally, this is just for “minimum-security inmates with no history of violent crimes that can participate.” The numbers of inmates in the firefighting unit have dropped in California due to overcrowding in prisons.
