INTRODUCTION OF SPEECH – Using guidelines from the text, what type of introduction did the speaker use? Was it appropriate? What kind of attention-getting device was used? How did the speaker establish credibility? What was the main purpose of the speech or the central idea? Which speech purpose (inform, persuade, entertain) did the speech meet?
The speaker’s topic was, a factor in effective leadership. Therefore, it was in line with the conference objectives. Also, the speaker asked the audience to use cell phones to demonstrate the importance of her topic. Furthermore, the speaker, established her competence by stating that her profession is to study people, and she can tell about a person by their verbal, and non-verbal actions. Moreover, the speech purpose was to inform the audience about effective ways to communicate. • (HOOK) The speaker grabbed the attention of the audience by directing the audience to send a text message outside the conference, about a controversial issue. In addition, it was followed after some time, for the audience to be paired with another audience and ask the same question we sent outside the forum. Evidently, the speaker made her point of an effective means of communication when the audience got engaged quite seriously with each partner when talked about the controversial matter. • (REVEAL TOPIC AND IMPORTANCE) The speaker then explained which type of communication is appropriate depending on the situation. More importantly, knowing when to use a device to communicate and when is appropriate to handle matters face to face. • (CREDIBILITY AND GOODWILL) The speaker, established her competence by stating that her profession is to study people. Also, the speaker stated that she can read and understand people by their verbal and non-verbal ways. • (SUMMARY/PREVIEW) Ways to communicate effectively by talking face to face or using a device to convey a message. Were the main points easy to remember and easy to identify? How did the speaker validate his/her evidence? Just like the other speeches, the speaker’s main points are still clear to me even after almost a month when I attended the conference. Also, the evidence was clear, by demonstrating to the audience what it’s like to communicate through text messaging and through face to face communication. • (MAIN POINTS) Types of Communications 1. Verbal 2. Non-verbal • (SUPPORTING MATERIALS) Used example, as supporting material through an activity. …show more content…
First, the speaker asked the audience to send a text message to anybody outside the forum, of an opinion about a controversial issue. Then, after a few minutes without response, we were asked to pick anybody from the audience to ask the same question of their opinion on the controversial matter. Clearly, the speaker was able to demonstrate the importance of a right way to an effective communication.
• (PATTERN OF ORGANIZATION) Topical Order
CONCLUSION OF SPEECH – How did the speaker end his/her speech? Was it powerful? Why or why not? What was the effect on you?
The speaker ended the speech awkwardly because one of the organizers came to check if the room was ready for another speaker who will use the room. So, the speaker just concluded the speech by giving her email address, and encouraged the audience to email her for feedback. It was not a very powerful speech in my opinion. The impact on me was not very strong because I felt that it was just like one of the classes I attend from Monday to Thursday.
