Gun control laws will prevent citizens from being able to use guns for self-defense. A study from the National Rifle Association revealed that “guns are used for self-defense 2.5 million times a year” (Beck, Should More Gun Control Laws Be Enacted?). When one owns a gun it gives them a sense of protection because if an intruder breaks into her home, then she can have the gun as self-defense. Joe Messerli states that “The 2nd Amendment to the Constitution protects the individual 's right to gun ownership” (Messerli). Joe also makes another great point that if guns are not allowed, weaker individuals have no means of self-defense from rape or other crimes. (Messerli). Everyone should have the right to be able to feel safe and protected. Stricter gun control is not necessarily needed, but rather education about the guns and gun safety. By teaching children at an early age about the guns and dangers of them, accidental gun deaths would be prevented. In one research study, Eddie Eagle of the GunSafe Program, stated, "Gun education is the best way to save young lives” (Beck, Should More Gun Laws Be Enacted?). Children should be taught at an early age that guns are very harmful and dangerous. Toy nerf guns and water guns are sold at stores such as Walmart, Toys r us, etc., where kids can purchase them to play with. Children need to be taught what the difference is between a toy gun and a real gun. Some kid could pick up a gun and not realize it, thinking it was a nerf gun pull the trigger and accidently shoot someone. If parents took the time to sit down and explain to their child that guns are very injurious, and how to properly use them, then some gun related accidents would be prevented. Education is an important aspect in our society, and by educating our children about the uses of guns, it would help. By educating children about guns, stricter gun control laws would not have to be required. In conclusion, it is clear that the debate on stricter gun control laws is far from resolved. There are responsibilities on both sides to work together in coming up with solutions that will be fair for
