More gun control laws are not the answer to less gun violence, better education is what's needed. Gun control has been a much debated topic in the U.S today. It is people's opinions on whether or not to have less or more gun control laws. There are many important reasons why we need more gun control laws but their are many facts about gun related deaths. This is why the U.S should not have stricter gun control laws because it's not the gun or how the person got the gun but rather, it is the person behind gun.
The more gun control laws the better chance of gun related violence. One example of this is in Jason Howerton article “The Firearms Statistics That Gun Control Advocates Don't Want To See” that Washington D.C had the highest murder rate per 100,000 people. The nation's capital saw 12 gun murders per 100,000 in 2011. Washington D.C. also ranked first in gun related robberies per 100,000 people with 242.56, and also ranked highest with the most gun control laws in 2011.This proves that the more gun control laws we have in a state the more likely we are to have gun violence and put people at a greater risk. California also had the highest rate of gun murders in 2011 with 1,220 which makes up 68 percent of all murders in the state which equates to 3.25 murders per 100,000 (Howerton). But in 2011 the Brady campaign named the state with the strictest gun control laws was California. In summary it is proven that when a state has more gun control laws the more likely it is to have deaths due to gun violence. It's not the gun, I believe it's the person who's handling the gun that is the real problem. …show more content…
In the article “Study Some Gun Control Laws Result In More Deaths” by Kimberly Leonard she stated that 40 percent of all gun transactions are done privately and are bought by domestic violence abuser, substance abuser and people with a mental illness (Leonard). This shows that a little under half of all gun purchases and handlers are done illegally and this is why the person behind the gun and how the person is going to use it, all starts with the education. In the same article Kimberley states that the other side doesn't take into account that most of gun related crimes and deaths, were that the gun was illegally bought. Better education that about gun use would encourage people first, to obtain guns legally for their possession, and secondly teach on how to keep the gun(s) safe, and or locked up away from others who could do harm with it and lastly, education before purchasing would minimize people from getting guns with wrong motives.. This proves that the person behind the gun wasn't educated enough on how to use it, or had the correct motive for handling the gun and this is why more gun control laws won't solve the problem.
In conclusion this is why we need to make available better and more education rather than more gun control laws because it is proven that the more gun control laws the more gun violence there would be. Education for families that have guns, education from schools
