The Founding Fathers of the United States wrote the Second Amendment to the Constitution for a reason; to protect the rights of the people. This means that citizens have the privilege and ability to possess a gun and use than gun for lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. The government has no right to restrict them in owning guns for this reason. Further amending the right to own a gun would only do more harm than good in the United States. By creating stricter gun control laws, the government would not solve the problem of criminals obtaining weapons and would only take away the protection of the people. Although gun accidents are down, they can always be reduced further. Statistics have shown that in just one year, 682 people die and 18,015 people are injured from gun accidents (US Department of Justice Bureau). But the probability of accidental deaths decreases within a family that understands how to safely handle a firearm: “The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturer’s Institute, Inc (SAAMI), stated, ‘Whether in the field, at the range or in the home, a responsible and knowledgeable gun owner is rarely involved in a firearms accident of any kind’” ("Should More Gun Control Laws Be Enacted?"). The professional opinion is that any weapon-carrier is less likely to be involved in gun accidents if they are properly trained on how to use and store a gun under all circumstances and locations.
