In 2012, about 1.32 million square miles, which is right around 24%, of the Arctic Ocean was froze over. That is low considering that it dropped about 3% since 2007. The heat will continue to increase causing the ice to melt completely. What would happen if all the ice would melt?
First, as the ice melted, the sea levels would rise. At first this wouldn’t seem like much of a problem seeing as they rise and sink as the moon makes its orbit around the Earth, however, they would continue to rise until they ate away at the coast of every continent. The ice we have is a natural air conditioner. It cools the Earth during the summer time to make sure the planet doesn’t get too hot. This is a big problem because without a natural cooling agent, more fires will start and droughts will be a problem, larger and stronger storm will continue to wreak havoc on the blue planet. Agriculture will decrease upsetting the food chain meaning there will be a chance a lot animals will become extinct. If the Earth does flood, animals will have to move to new locations.
