Le Voyage Dans La Lune: A Trip To The Moon

The movie that I'm analyzing is ‘Le Voyage dans la Lune (A Trip To The Moon) that was directed by George Méliès in 1902. The movie begins with a group of astronomers getting ready to take a trip to the moon. After gathering the desired team of astronomers to go on this expedition, the rocket they built takes off and is now approaching the moon as it crashes into the moon's eye. (This image of the rocket in the moon's eye is one of the pieces Méliès has become very famous for). Shortly after landing the team begins exploring the moon where they come across extraterrestrial creatures who capture the astronomers. After a long, and hard struggle, fighting off the creatures with an umbrella, they were able to escape and return back to Earth.

All of the techniques used brought character to the film as a whole. Films during this time were known to have long takes without cutting, also it didn't have camera movements in which it followed the subject to avoid cuts and relied heavily on title cards to help the audience move with the story. On the other hand ‘A Trip To The Moon’ did the opposite of that. It had about seven to eight cuts within one single take, no title card usage, and no camera movement. Since I know that George Méliès was once a magician, seeing the use of magic in this film definitely shows how his career as a magician had great influence on him as a filmmaker especially in his editing style which flashes right before your eyes and if you're not paying close attention to it you wouldn't even notice it. Being that Méliès was one of the first directors to incorporate the style of quick edits and special effects in his work led other filmmakers to follow in his footsteps. It definitely made him stand out and it set him apart from the rest of filmmakers. Because of Méliès, films that are made today incorporate many of his techniques such as the telling the story without giving the audience clues as to what's happening by using title cards. Today's films also use subtle edits by trying to make the edit while there is action happening so it can be seamless where the viewer wouldn't even notice it which I believe was inspired by Méliès’ use of stop motion. I also feel that films today use props and their actors to add to the set by creating worlds in which adds heavily to the environment in which the actors are portraying such as the actors taking place of the stars or even the one Méliès is most famous for with the rocket into

Others could be convinced towards a certain argument over someone with authority. Stating the pros and proving them will make the audience agree with them. The audience’s attention could be shown by their reaction to a certain picture or imagine. What that picture could mean could vary and the audience uses their emotions to emphasize their statement.…

The poetry is consistent with being smart, fierce, lyrical, and gorgeous. Layered figurative imagery, music, a narrative impulse that engages human and animal worlds, family, faith, the lack of and is powerful in its restrained and strategic balance between image and utterance. The absence of government is more desirable than oppressive government, because it is much more difficult to truly live underneath an oppressive government than it is to start from scratch in a new, unorganized situation where you have more freedom. While it is somewhat unnerving to live in a circumstance with no government, and while no situation is void of issues and problems, a fulness of freedom would be present and the issues would be fixed much easier and quicker than in a despotic environment. Within oppressive governments the only solutions available are reform (which is unlikely in tyrannical conditions) revolution (extremely difficult, bloody, and violent) or not to do anything at all (which really isn’t an option). But, with an anarchist…

We Should Not Go Back to the Moon The first time America stepped foot on the moon was on July 20th, 1969, however, the last time Americans stepped foot on the moon is was in 1972. Charles Krauthammer, in the Washington Post, from 2009, argues the we should go back to the moon. Krauthammer states that we go back to the moon “for the wonder and glory of it” and because of the moon's “immense possibilities” (57). Krauthammer fails to mention a lot of vital information that could happen when we go back to the moon like, where will the money come from, the risks of going to the moon, and lastly what benefit would come from going to a place that we have already spent time on.…

Before watching this documentary, I never really focused on how films were edited. After seeing it, I have begun to notice when cuts are made during my favorite TV shows. The idea of the “invisible cut” was introduced early in film editing history and helped make action more fluid when the camera angle was switched. This technique is still used today in any action film and helps the viewer comprehend what is going on. I used to not be able to tell why older films from the 1950s looked different from modern ones, but now I can tell that it is because of the techniques that were used during…
