The first time America stepped foot on the moon was on July 20th, 1969, however, the last time Americans stepped foot on the moon is was in 1972. Charles Krauthammer, in the Washington Post, from 2009, argues the we should go back to the moon. Krauthammer states that we go back to the moon “for the wonder and glory of it” and because of the moon's “immense possibilities” (57). Krauthammer fails to mention a lot of vital information that could happen when we go back to the moon like, where will the money come from, the risks of going to the moon, and lastly what benefit would come from going to a place that we have already spent time on.

Krauthammer overlooks the risks of traveling to the moon and does not speak of those hazards that could possibly put someone's life in danger. He only talks about the United States trying to “ground” us to Earth, yet the United States do not want to be held responsible for innocent life. Not only is there technology risks, there is a factor of human error. Technology is only as good as what humans set it up to be so, for example, everything has to be has to be set up and entered by humans in technology, but if someone was to enter data wrong the whole mission would be doomed.
Instead of going to the moon, where we have been several times, why not try to travel somewhere else we could possibly sustain life like Mars. Yes, there has been ideas that we could live on the moon but, Mars is more likely to assist life because Mars is a planet like Earth unlike the moon. Also, here on earth are so many research opportunities that Americans could partake. Those research possibilities being the cure to illnesses or diseases. Krauthammer criticizes our problems here on Earth and believes that they will always be problems so why wait for them when they can not be
