SECTION A: ESSAY: SELF-CRITIQUE

I am Fajer Al-Abdulhadi. I would like to say that in this creative writing course, I have come to like writing stories. I love poems, and I like imagining their meanings, but I think they are not easy to write. When it comes to choosing topics, I would say that it does not matter to me. I think I can handle any topic in short story writing. I only need to think of an event, what I had seen or experienced before and the words come flowing. I believe I am creative and can develop stories out of any topic. This course has enhanced my creative writing skills. I knew I could make up stories, and can tell stories of my childhood and experiences in an entertaining way, but I did not know that writing needs a step by step guidance to getting it right. From the assignments we have done, I can say that I have improved. I have tried to focus on a specific incident as recommended by my lecturer when writing a short story. I also read some hints about how to write short stories from some books online and understood how I could develop a plot. I know that if I want to write a short story, I have to inform my readers about one specific character, or just two I should not leave my stories unexplained. For example in one of my stories I said that I was not there for my friends. For my audience to understand me better, I should include some information showing how I failed them and may be the benefits of being there for them. I feel I need to do more to understand and stick to my writing style. I have not identified one, but I know it is important to have some methods. I also know that there is no right style for writing, but in my writing, I will identify my style. Currently, I have done some stories but am still unable to identify my style. With more stories to write and review, I will be able to learn more about writing. I will also read more about writing styles and compare them with my writing to know my category. I have a problem writing poems. I know poems require certain rules, which I find very hard to follow when writing it. For example, in the assignments just given, we were given four options among which there were two poems. I started writing one using rhymes as required, but I could not continue. I find it hard rhyming words or their pronunciations and still make sense. The content of the poem is however not a problem. I enjoy fictional stories because I believe there is not much I can say about my experiences. There are, however other real stories I can talk about. The ones I see. I think I am good at short story writing. My only problem now is if I have everything right. The prewriting process came naturally. Before I write my stories or poem, I take time to think of what to write based on a specific topic. I even take time to research

My son then said, “mom, I will not be alone. Other children will go with me, and march the streets of Birmingham, to make our country free” ().
I had finished arranging all the utensils and my next step was only to check if every other thing was in order, take a bath and go for the church meeting. Well, church meeting. Good idea, I just had a solution for my baby.
Yes he would not be alone, and it will be great to be involved in the march for freedom, but I still did not like the idea. I still feared that there would be guns. So yes, church would be a good idea. In the church, he will not be alone, and there will be no guns. I will have nothing to fear. My son will be in the hands of God. So I said. “You may go to church instead, and sing in the children’s choir”. Little did I know that nature knew better. I guess it was just at a corner giggling, just waiting for the opposite of my expectations to explode on my face, and then laugh. I have no other explanations for it that is why I said it enjoys the

One paragraph that stood out to me and was especially interesting was paragraph thirteen in CR3 A,” Who’s Cheap.” This paragraph was extremely successful as it summed up the double standard that exists and that is not talked about not enough. Some women still believe that the men should do everything; that there are fixed roles for gender in marriage and in dating. As Cheap stated on page two, “As a woman, you are so genetically precious hat you deserve attention just because you grace the planet. So, of course, he should buy you drinks.…

Honors committee, As long as I can remember I have sought challenges in academics. Until only recently I didn't know why I pushed myself as hard as I have in school, but now I understand it is because I truly love learning. For me, discovering something new or unknown, teaching myself a new skill, or learning more about the world around me is one of the most gratifying things in my life. This is part of why I think I should be admitted into the honors program here at the University of Iowa. As a young child I was insatiably curious, asking my mother questions ad nausea, never satisfied with simple answers.…

compared to the ones in previous decades. It used to be that company rules were enforced to all and followed by everyone, yet now employers understand the constructs between the types of workers and make accommodations for the creative class. Kipp is an example of an employer who saw just how much emphasis the creative class puts on the individual. In order to truly keep the creative class happy and focuses on work, an employer cannot set rules for every member of the creative class and think they can be handled the same way. The work environment today is very different from the work environment in the past because now employers are prepared to listen to the needs and wants of the creative class.…
