2. What are Buffy’s options (choices)? What values must Buffy weigh in considering her options?
Buffy can either find time to write a paper, take a failing grade and have to retake the course, or take Jim Bob’s “tweaked” paper. While Jim Bob’s paper seems the most appealing, Buffy would have to take into consideration the affect this could have on her values. Although she is doing this to better herself and her family, cheating, no matter how low-key, is unacceptable. Her twin sons look up to her, and knowing their mother wrongly passed the test could not only lead them to believe cheating is okay, but may disappoint them, as well. That could destroy powerful family valuesswfrds. Furthermore, Buffy’s personal values will be affected, too. She must choose between passing the class and keeping her morals. Being in college, her past educational career thus enforces the “no cheating” policy, so she understands it will take a toll on herself. Every time she attends the class, or tells people of her completing the course, she will remember how she falsely achieved that goal. She will be titled a “cheater.” Obviously, if she were to find time to write the paper, she would pass the course and maintain her morals and beliefs. However, as she is so preoccupied with other activities, she would most likely have to take a failing grade and retake the class, if she did not choose to take Jim Bob’s help. 3. What are Jim Bob’s options? What values must Jim Bob weigh in considering his options? Jim Bob has fewer options, but just as many values to take into consideration in this scenario. Jim Bob’s paper is already complete, meaning he does not have to worry about failing the course. However, he is trying to do the right thing by helping Buffy, since he understands how hard she works, but because he isn’t following the professor’s guidelines, he is therefore giving up values. Again, personal values will suffer. He will, too, be labeled a “cheater,” and it will take …show more content…
If Professor Snidely is lenient on her, she may receive a zero for the paper, but that will result in her failing the entire course. Jim Bob would suffer from possibly being kicked out of the college, as well. He would not fail the course, if he received a zero, but it would still affect his beliefs. Jim Bob would have to come to terms that he wrongly tried to do the right thing. Professor Snidely, however, would have to weigh in the consequences in which he must enforce. He must choose if he would like to expel the students, or give them a zero on the assignment. This could cause him stress and affect him in other aspects of his life. Knowing Buffy’s outside responsibilities, he may be more understanding, but either way, there will be crucial
