The boy has two choices: should he choose the girl, Sheila, or choose the fish? His first choice is the girl. Because he has liked Sheila for a long time, he is confident enough to show off in front of her. The boy swims endless laps in front of her cabin, which is just next …show more content…
This was a bad decision, since Sheila obviously wasn’t interested in him at all. All she wanted to do was talk about herself and what she cared about, not what the boy wanted. When they got to the party, they only danced once or twice together, and at the end of the night Sheila went home with another boy in his Corvette. This showed the narrator that she just wanted to be friends (maybe not even that.) Since he made the decision to keep the girl, the fish got away. The boy was haunted by the fact that that bass would have been the biggest fish he had ever caught up to that point in his life. In addition to being the biggest fish he had ever seen, the bass was also the strongest fish the boy had ever gotten on his line, since it pulled and tugged it’s way through the water all the way to the venue. Because the narrator chose to keep his date with Sheila going, he lost his chance to brag about catching this fish. I, too, can relate to making a bad decision. My bad choice wasn’t letting go of a fish, however, it was choosing to cheat on a spelling test that I didn’t study for in 2nd grade. Eventhough it sounds quite pointless now, it was a big deal at the time. I had many consequences for making this negative decision. One of those was that I was grounded from playing my favorite game, Webkinz, for an entire week. This was devastating to my 7 year old self, for I lived and breathed that game. I also lost trust with my teacher, which eventually got restored, but took some time. Another reason why my decision wasn’t the smartest is that I didn’t gain anything from cheating. I thought that if I cheated on this test I would get an A+, but this wasn’t the case. Since I got caught cheating, I ended up with a zero on the test. I don’t know why it occurred to me that I would be able to get away with holding the study guide under my desk, but in the end I did the crime, so I had to face the consequences. Now that I am in high school, I know that
