One area that I believe I was successful in was in regards to competency 3.3, 3.8 and 3.12. While caring for a client who had been experiencing chest pain prior to me coming on shift, I ensured that I spoke with my nurse about the changes to expect and how to respond if the changes should arise during my care. I also made sure to take frequent vital signs and use subjective questioning to determine any changes in the status of my client. This allowed me to skillfully implement appropriate nursing care and prepare myself for a situation that could potentially change rather quickly. One area that I have been working on and would like to improve upon is developing mini DM assignments with each client that I take into my care.…
I am a Student Paramedic with the East Of England Ambulance NHS Trust and this essay will look reflectively at an incident I attended during the course of my duties. The assignment will reflect on the moral, ethical and legal aspects of pre-hospital care that challenged me during this particular emergency. Reflective practice is a requirement of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC, 2014). Rolfe, Freshwater and Jasper (2001) state, “we learn by doing and realising what came of what we did”.…
This semester, I enrolled in Early Childhood Education 350 (ECE) at Consumes River College, which transfers over to Sacramento State as Child Development 35F. ECE 350 is a course that incorporates lecture and fielded experience at a school site. I was a student volunteer at John Reith Elementary school for an AM and PM kindergarten class. Ms. Moua is the morning instructor, and this is her first year at John Reith and Ms. Din is the afternoon instructor and is a veteran at John Reith. John Reith is a titled one school, meaning the majority of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The school is gated and the only way to enter is through the office, which protects the staff and students from any intruders.…
“In the practice of tolerance, one’s enemy is the best teachers. --Dalai lama. What he is saying is that tolerance is a major key to success and acceptance. Tolerance of people who are different than you is important because you can learn something new, and it builds character. If you are hanging out with peole diffrent than you, than you will probably pick something up from them.…
In this Reflective Essay I am going to discuss and focus on the lessons I learnt during the Graduate Career course which I attended for one week from the 16th- 20th of November and also it will go ahead to discuss how it will benefit me in the nearer future especially when applying for a job role in any firm or company. What is a Reflective Essay? “according to Gibbs, 1998 a reflective essay should be descriptive, experienced gotten from the event attended should be stated, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and finally future goals should be stated”.it can also be defined as a type of writing in which an individual is able to discuss its experience and future ambitions from an event that has occurred or it can be made up (Condor.depaul.edu 2001). While attending the Graduate Careers course I was able to gain knowledge and skills from all the workshops.…
Twelve weeks later, my first college writing course completed, and to my pleasant almost surprise, I feel as though I have bettered myself in writing. If you look back at my Mid-term Reflection, walking into my first undergraduate writing class was a little unsettling. Was I going to be totally on top of everything the professor threw at us students or was I going to be completely unprepared? Rhetoric and Composition 103 was neither one nor the other, but a writing class that took what I knew and what I did not to create a well-rounded writer. By the time Mid-term’s rolled around, I could already see a change in my skills as a writer.…
Loughran, J. (2002). Effective Reflective Practice; In search of meaning in learning about teaching. This article discusses the importance of reflective practice as a way for teachers to gain valuable insight and knowledge about their teaching practice.…
As a practitioner it is my duty to prioritize and find resources that meet the immediate needs of the client. After discussing identified needs with client we began to work on an action plan to assist in the process. The client has list specific goal for herself…
To critically explore the value and purpose of reflective practice The aim of reflection is, arguably, intended to ensure that a person gains a greater sense of self awareness in a number of situations. This paper builds upon that perspective by expanding upon several core research aims. The first aim comprises a need to demonstrate a critical understanding of the different theoretical perspectives on reflection. This aim then develops an informed position on the value of reflection for teaching and learning. Added to this, this paper also supports the acquisition of knowledge that is offered via a mix of reflective tools.…
Teaching is not only sharing knowledge and providing guidance for people to understand, it is also about learning. I’ve had prior teaching opportunities and have done a number of work-related, in-service education sessions in my place of employment, most considered informal. Presenting and teaching to an unfamiliar audience in the community, however, it’s a whole different experience. It’s an experience where I learned a great deal. This paper will discuss the overall teaching experience including; topic selected, the rationale and how it was presented, the learning theory applied and what materials were used during the session and the audience’s evaluation, as well as my personal evaluation of this valuable experience.…
To complete the simulation, I decided to go home. This was to avoid the need to travel as well as to be in an environment where no one was informed about the assignment. As I drove home, I created my story of how I would explain my new condition to my parent. Considering I had work during the first half of the day, my story became, “I lifted a heavy box of files at work from a high shelf without positioning my body correctly. As I tried to take the box down from the shelf, I lost control which resulted in my injury.”…

Reflecting back on my semester so far, I would say I have changed a bit. Early on in a few journal entries and discussion post, I emphasized the struggle I had with time management and keeping myself motivated. I found out that I need to keep myself busy to become successful, I am currently working this semester part-time, and need to manage my time carefully. Unfortunately, I still find myself stressing about time. I can honestly say, I think I have gotten used to worrying and leaving everything at the last minute.…
Introduction The time I spent with my student during our tutoring sessions gave me a first-hand experience of how it is like on a student to teacher level. I learned a lot from my student, Kade, as I hope he also learned from me. During this time, I was able to observe his strengths and his weakness. I had to be flexible to cater my lesson plan to my student, so he could build upon what he learned and advance through more challenging activities.…
Self-reflection is a huge aspect of learning and growth- not only for yourself as a teacher, but also for your students. Every Friday my mentor teacher would have the students self-reflect on the week they had. It was called a “5-4-3-2-1” and it asked the students to list five things that made them smile that week, four words to describe their week, three things they plan to do that weekend, two things they learned that week and one goal they have for the next week. This gave students the opportunity to think about the week they had, and also think ahead for the next week. Students then had the opportunity to share what they wrote, if they wanted to, with the class.…
