Example Of A Reflective Essay

In this Reflective Essay I am going to discuss and focus on the lessons I learnt during the Graduate Career course which I attended for one week from the 16th- 20th of November and also it will go ahead to discuss how it will benefit me in the nearer future especially when applying for a job role in any firm or company. What is a Reflective Essay? “according to Gibbs, 1998 a reflective essay should be descriptive, experienced gotten from the event attended should be stated, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and finally future goals should be stated”.it can also be defined as a type of writing in which an individual is able to discuss its experience and future ambitions from an event that has occurred or it can be made up (Condor.depaul.edu 2001).
While attending the Graduate Careers course I was able to gain knowledge and skills from all the workshops. As a Second year student I found this module very relevant and important to me because it was able to tell me in detail everything I have been questioning people about for example “Taking a year off” and how to get a job all the details I needed to know was stated in just one week. I have always wondered why it was so important and how it will benefit me in the future but during the workshops I had attended on these course I was being taught by my lecturers that they are different types of placement like; summer placement, work experience, placement year which can be done at the end of my second year and even if I didn’t want to take a whole year off I could apply for a summer placement, or just gain work experience while studying, my lecturer explained further that in gaining work experience especially a volunteering job it will make the employer happy to call you back for an interview in just looking at your CV because placements, internships makes you more qualified and open to different types of jobs because of the skills and experience gained while working, and also it makes you more responsible. Different Organisations who offer students placements was also mentioned as well, and some links and guidelines on how to apply for a placement was posted on module, also some students who had gone away to study abroad or done a placement year came to speak to us about their experiences and how beneficial it was to them, and from that day onwards I didn’t ask too many questions about placement because I was told almost everything I needed to know and I have started searching for companies that offer placements. This made me proud to be a student of Coventry university because I doubt all universities offer this help to their students. In addition to this, I was also told that social media is one of the reasons why people get their applications turned down, before I attended the workshop I never knew that most employers use social media as part of assessment while reviewing your application and whatever is posted on social media your employer can judge you based on what is being seen on social media and most of the time a lot of people get turned down from the job because of what they post on social media most especially Facebook.

Since after the workshop I have been more careful with whatever is posted online by me and have also put up a privacy policy in order to review everything before I allow it appear on my profile, and also, before now I made use of my nickname on all my social media profile but since after the workshop I had attended I had changed my name on social media to my real name so it can be easier for any employer have access to my profile if necessary. Secondly, the course lecturers / tutors also explained more about the process and procedures that occur right after your application has been looked at. I was always worried about the Assessment centre and Interview stage because I am a very shy person and I get scared most of the time when it comes to that, but after I attended the workshop on those two topics everything seemed rather easy because we were given the process to take in order to prepare for

During this summer session of ENGL101A, I have learned multiple ways to express myself through my writing. In fact, before signing up for this class, I did not know the proper way to compose an academic essay for a particular audience, and how to properly cite my sources. Nevertheless, after the short summer session, I am able to define my purpose and audience, analyze critically any piece of information, and write with proper citations and fewer grammatical errors with confidence. Through the short time of 5 weeks, I learned how to focus on my audience as well as how to define the purpose of my papers as academically as possible.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

Portfolio reviewers: My pre-ECU 2201 experience was my English 1100 course. While taking this class online, I learned how to make an interesting essay. Though this class didn 't require much research, it taught me how to write an interesting essay. Most of the time the professor gave us the decision to write whatever we wanted to write on. There might been some times where he wanted us to write a specific topic, but still had the chance to write whatever we wanted within the topic.…

This semester has passed by in what feels like no time at all. I barely even blinked, and the year is already half over. In literature class, this feels especially true, as we have moved from The Things They Carried to Jane Eyre, and now to The Awakening. During this time frame, we have written multiple pieces, the majority of which consisted of FRQs. I believe that my greatest piece of writing this semester was the FRQ based off of a section of Ann Petry’s…

The Final Test I passed the final test, but they didn’t. It all started with my class, called the “9ers”. We were the first class to ever have their whole grade graduate on the same day. We were the smartest of them all, is what the counselor told us. All we had to do was pass the final test to figure out who were leaving to go to the new community.…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

“I have to go here, dad. I just have to,” I told my father during our first tour of Colorado Mesa University’s campus. “I already feel like a Maverick,” I admitted as I straightened out my new CMU ball cap from the campus bookstore. It was a strange feeling knowing that I would no longer be Lakeland High School’s most spirited student, but there was excitement in knowing that I would soon show my pride for Colorado Mesa. Images of my blue and white spirit wear quickly changed to be maroon and gold.…

The three sample pieces I chose to include in my portfolio are an argumentative English essay, a book report written for an AP science class, and a lab report. These pieces illustrate my proficiency in multiple subject areas including research and argumentation. The first piece presented in my portfolio is an argumentative essay written for my AP Language and Composition course. The given essay, written by Edward O. Wilson, and AP prompt were taken from the 2009 AP Language exam, found on the College Board website. The prompt instructed students to “write an essay in which you analyze how Wilson’s use of satire illustrates the unproductive nature of such discussions.”…

I struggle academically in the start of high school mainly because I made the decision to hang out with a clique of people that diverted my focus in school and ultimately led me to creating an alter ego. I came into high school as a recent valedictorian graduate and suddenly I was doing poorly in school. Deeply inside I truly cared about my studies; however, I had to depict an image as if I trifle school in order to fit in the group. My home school and my community are located in a infamous vicinity; I can recall being paranoid as I walked to school. I could not demonstrate fear in school because I would be pictured as a vulnerable target and other students always tried to test me; therefore, it was enviable and necessary to prove myself.…

I have never been a strong writer, nor ever had the passion or interest in writing. I have taken classes like this before and I didn’t seem to know exactly how to format an essay correctly. I have also never been interested in the topics in past classes.…

Introduction Have you ever wondered what your greatest strengths were and how you could use those to help you advance in your career? Many people probably think they have certain personality strengths until they take an assessment to see what they actually are. I recently took a personality assessment utilizing the DISC method of scoring to see what my more dominant personality traits were. The results came back a little different than what I thought of myself at first but the more I pondered on it, the more it made sense. My three most dominant personality traits are Conscientious, Dominant and Steadiness.…

I first became interested in counseling when I was helping a friend with serious drug related problems and family problems seek help and counsel from advisors. Being just sixteen, I didn’t know how to help him efficiently and felt both powerless and helpless at trying to find adequate resources and services to help him deal with his problems. While I did eventually find counseling services and potential help for him, the effects of his psychological problems were so brutal that he committed suicide. This profound experience of losing a close friend to suicide forced me to develop a strong interest into understanding the role, guidance and motivations that leads people to such extremes. At this point, I had already cultivated the desire to…
