Explain the stages of how algal blooms occur and affect organisms. |
Fertilisers dissolve into water and runs off the fields into rivers and lakes. Water plants and algae grow rapidly. Algal blooms prevents sunlight reaching other water plants causing them to die. Bacteria decompose the dead plants and use up the available oxygen causing animals in the water to die. |
