List the Life Functions
Nutrition, Transport, Respiration, excretion, Elimination, reproduction, growth, repair, synthesis, locomotion, regulation
What does the life function, NUTRITION, do?
process by which an organism takes in food & uses it for enerty, growth, & repair. INGESTION:
NUTRITION (life function)-
How do plants make their own food? |
Photosynthesis. Plants take in carbon dioxide and water, then produce a sugar called glucose.
What does the life function, TRANSPORT, do?
function by which food, water and oxygen are distributed to all cells of the organism. Also carries waste products away. In humans - blood circulatory system does this. In plants - vascular bundles carry materials throughout the organisms.
What does the life function, RESPIRATION, do?
provides the organism with energy. Oxygen is brought into the organism & is used to chemically release energy stored in food. Animals - breathing takes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide. celluar respiration - food & oxygen interact chemically to produce energy & waste (carbon dioxide & water).
What does the life function, EXCRETION, do?
the removal of cellular waste products such as water, carbon dioxide, & nitrogen
What does the life function, REPRODUCTION, do?
1) organism produces new individuals of the same kind.
2) produces new cells that are necessary for growth and repair. *3) Necessary for survival of species, but not off individual |
What does the life function, GROWTH, do?
increase in the size of the organism.
-reproduction of fnew cells & from the increase in cell size. |
