Explain how to construct a circle with radius 8cm
Open the compass up to 8cm and draw a circle
Explain how to construct a circle with diameter 8cm
Open the compass up to 4cm and draw a circle
Explain how to construct a triangle with sides 7cm, 6cm and 5cm
Draw a line 7cm long. Open the compass to 6cm and placing the point at the end of the line draw and arc. Now draw a 5cm arc from the other end of the 7cm line. Draw straight lines from the 7cm line to where the arcs cross.
Explain how to construct a perpendicular bisector of a line
Put the compass point on the end of the line and open it up to over half way along the line and draw an arc. Keeping the compass the same measurement draw an arc from the other end of the line. Join up the two points where the arcs cross.
Explain how to construct an angle bisector
Put the compass point on the vertex of the angle. Open up the compass and draw an arc that crosses both lines of the angle. Move your compass to a crossing poit and draw an arc into the middle. Repeat from the other crossing point. Draw a line from where these 2 arcs cross to the vertex.
Explain how to measure the bearing of B from A
Put the angle indicator centre on A and line up 0 with North. Measure the angle clockwise around to the line joining A to B.
What is the radius of a circle?
The distance from the centre of the circle to the circumference.
What is the diameter of a circle?
The distance between two points on the circumference going through the centre.
What is the circumference of a circle?
The distance around the outside ( the perimeter).
What is a locus ?
(or loci-plural)
The set of points that follow a rule, usually making a straight or curved line.
