3d Shape Research Paper

Under the title of math there is so much that kindergarteners need to be exposed to within the school year, from number sense to addition and vocabulary and then geometry. This unit plan will introduce and explain one of the major geometry ideas that need to be taught in kindergarten. At this age students need to be exposed to the common 3D shapes and be able to identify the shapes and the characteristics of the shapes. Another important idea is to be able to explain what makes 2D shapes different from 3D shapes. It is important for the students to know this topic well because as the students grow they will learn more in-depth topics within geometry that will require them to be able to visualize these shapes to then later on apply formulas to find the area, volume, circumference, and more of the 3D shapes. This unit plan will address all of the basic kindergarten skills and more. Before starting this unit the students will need to have a good understanding of what shapes are. Then, to make learning better for the auditory learners the lessons will include a 3D shape rap song that the students will listen to. For auditory learners the teacher will make an anchor chart with the students that list the 3D shapes and will include a real life example of each shape. The teacher will also use a poem that is on chart paper so the students can listen, read along, and refer back to the poem at any time.
