(mnemonic phrase: C__________'s Powerful R_____ Really Capture Everyone's I's)
General Q's about Conference Services

- translation
- dining and entertaining
General Q's about Conference Services

Tell us about one event you organized that went well, and one that went poorly - and also tell us what you learned from those experiences.
- One that went well: 'Soul Food', an inter-faith discussion series - What I learned? Get a sense of what people are thinking about, past the noise and hubbub of daily life, and tap into that. Also, work in a team to deliver a good program - I worked with Nathalie.
- One that went poorly: a play I tried to put on once, about five years ago in Macau. There is so much involved in producing a play - ___, ___, ___. The eventual production was spotty at best. I learned that you need to have reasonable goals, in order to bring people on board; and you need to have buy-in/investment from all participants, otherwise making progress is like herding cats.
Q's about Conference Liaison / Assistant Position

What is the role of the Conference Liaison / Conference Assistant?
- the team of Conference Assistants work to support our clients in the planning and execution of their events to ensure an excellent experience at the university from start to finish
Q's about Conference Liaison / Assistant Position

What made you choose to apply to be a Conference Liaison/Assistant?
- I am passionate about people and about generating and sharing knowledge, which is what conferences are all about. I've been working with people in learning sites for years, at summer camps, university residence programs, and schools and classrooms, and I find that the magic of people is in their ability to create - and that includes creating and shaping knowledge. Our work, as conference services providers, is to work with organizers to plan and implement a smooth, streamlined meeting experience, from soliciting or receiving the initial request for services to finishing with the conference evaluation. This healthy conference experience is absolutely essential for the conference to achieve its educational aims.
Q's about Conference Liaison / Assistant Position

What do you mean when you say people (at learning sites) create knowledge?
- Think of an apple, the fruit of a tree: the better the environment is, the more care and selfless attention has gone into ensuring the tree has what it needs, the more fruit it will produce. Knowledge is very similar: it's a living, growing thing which is directly affected by its social surroundings.
Q's about Conference Liaison / Assistant Position

Why did you apply for the position of Client Service Representative in addition to the position of Conference Liaison/Assistant? It doesn't seem to be at the level of your experience.
- Well, firstly, I believe I'm well qualified for the Conference Liaison position and that's the work I much prefer to do. However, as a practical matter of finding summer employment to pay the bills, the CSR position offers a wage that's comparable to other jobs in the city, and at an organization with an excellent working environment. As a CSR, I would definitely give 100%. That said, I think my experience, especially my event planning experience, my completion of my undergraduate degree, and the six years I spent working overseas, means there is more I can contribute in a Conference Liaison position, so as I said, I would much prefer to be hired in that capacity.
