One may say that by the use of experimenting on animals have helped humans discover more about our bodies and how they function and react to different substances (Woods 8). Through animal testing we have found out about many vaccinations to help the health of the world. Some treatments they were founded through experiments were the polio vaccine, breast cancer, brain injury, childhood leukemia, tuberculosis and hepatitis B (Animal Testing). Through animal testing we have found out many great useful vaccinations to better our health and have learned more about the human body. Animal testing is not always the way to go. There have been other discoveries made by testing on alternatives like volunteers and skin cells from humans. Animals are living things just as humans are, so why torture the living animals when there are so many alternatives out there that can provide the same information but in a less timely and less costly …show more content…
Non animal testing is a faster and cheaper way to test products (Alternatives). “In vitro” testing, meaning in glass, is a fraction of the cost that “In vivi” testing or in life testing costs (Woods 44). People don 't always get reliable results from animals. Nine out of ten drugs appear promising for animals but fail to help humans (Hunnicutt 21). We shouldn’t rely on the tests that are given because most likely only one out of ten will actually help humans. Scientists have tried to make a vaccine for HIV/AIDS for a long time. They have provided over eighty vaccines that have passes animal testing have failed for humans (Alternatives). We waste time trying to find vaccines for humans through animals. Animals are not the same as humans; we react to different substances in different ways, which is why using non animal methods are better. Many alternatives that we could use are left over skin from operations (Alternatives). Also there are many human volunteers out there that want to help this situation also skin cells from humans can help (Woods 29). Instead of using hundreds of animals for one experiment, when a single pig liver might supply hundreds of experiments (Woods 25). In the test SKINTEX you use a substance from a pumpkin to see if chemicals will harm the human skin. Also in a test EYETEX you can use protein from a bean to see the effect of other chemicals on the
