Web Presence To businesses, web presence refers to the appearance of the company on the Internet. According to Newtek, a study was done amongst 1050 small businesses with less than 50 employees. The study revealed that most small businesses understood the importance of an appealing website, but they decided to host themselves on social media instead. Businesses aren’t maximizing the benefits of having an impactful web presence because they only opt to use social media (2013). Grand Valley Sporting Goods’ current web presence includes their company website, their Facebook page, and their Google Plus page.

Organization and structure, simple navigation, and easy to read all focus on making the website look professional and easy to use. Original content and outstanding design focus on making the website memorable and build visitor interest. Speed is about having any graphics, audio, or videos load quickly. Tracking is about measure the website’s traffic and marketing efficiency. Link building is important for improving where the website will appear in search engines, and can be done by promoting the website on other high-quality websites. Lastly, SEO is an important factor in getting the website found via search engines (n.d.). Grand Valley Sporting Goods’ website is structured nicely, is easy to navigate, and has original content with a nice design that loads quickly. The first factor is about how the website has been made already. The website should focus on content, information architecture, content management system, and infrastructure as they make up the core of a website (2013). Grand Valley Sporting Goods’ website has several pages filled with content that are relevant to the business. Visitors of the website are able find out what Grand Valley Sporting Goods is about just by reading the main page of their website. According to Edwards, the second factor is to determine what search engines are looking for. Search engines will check a website’s content, how it performs, if it’s user friendly, and if the website has enough content to reference. The third factor is to determine what search engines are not looking for. Search engines don’t want to show websites that overuse keywords, purchased links, and aren’t user friendly. The remaining factors involve keeping the website in line with the company’s business model and having multiple platforms such as social media. (2013).
