For instance, in 2009 the WHO estimated that candida infections of the mouth affect around 9.5 million people worldwide.6 Candida infection of the oesophagus occurs in around 2 million people worldwide.7 The recurrent attacks of vulvovaginal candida infection affect at least 75 million women annually worldwide, with 5–8% of the women have at least four attacks yearly.8 It is also estimated that, about 70% of all premenopausal woman around the world develop vulvovaginal candida infection at some point in their lives.9
