The Learning Leader article consists of consist tips to stream line the abundance of data points. School need to unitize data to focus on a concept or area. Understanding the “why” can contribute to improvement and success of the data.
2. Explain how this will impact you as a school leader. As a school leader the information within the article is insightful. As a teacher we test our student over and over, giving us data. The big question is what we do with that data that make it purposeful. The four tips of, “commit to data analysis as a continuous process, start with a clearly focused question, develop a school-side culture of hypotheses testing, go beyond the numbers to consider cause …show more content…
After the discussion there must be a clear goal, where do we need to go with the data. A data driven culture can promote success. I work in a data driven school culture, from teachers to students. It is uplifting to have teachers have data chats with students about their strengths and weaknesses on monthly basis if not more. As teacher we discuss this data in our monthly team leader meetings and delve into the root of the problems. This can indicate vertical grade level concepts that can be strengthened through lessons and monitoring data. Going beyond the student is key in my eyes. I teach middle school math and I have seen that the math test are reading assessments. From a teaching standpoint I understand where the word problems have student think and understand the process of a mathematical concept; however, the assessment must be specific to the use Pythagorean Theorem or the application of it. I work with ESE students who are very bright; they can commutate and apply concepts if just given the numbers. Their issue is the reading comprehension. When I think of root causes within mathematics it is number sense, comprehension, and real world application. Understanding the students’ whole picture a teacher, school can aid in improving that students mastery of a concert.
3. Why is data analysis a continuous process and not a one-time event? Data analysis is a continuous process due to one word, improvement. Data must be steadily discussed, tweaked and analyzed. Data can shows growth over time. As educators we want to see the growth and improvement of the student, class, and school. Wither it is behavior data, reading or math data, improvement is essential to the
