The Importance Of Honor Codes In Schools

Many educational institutions have honor codes or honor system. Honor codes are a set of rules or ethical ideas that establish laws in an academic environment based on essential ideas that describes the honorable behavior within the academic environment. The use of honor codes rely on the concept of people in the environment can be trusted or not and they act honorably or not. People inside the academic environment that breaks what the honor code stipulates can be liable to several punishments depending what the honor code of each school says. The punishment can be expulsion from the school. Honor codes use to prevent academic dishonesty, such as plagiarism. It is important for students to be able to follow rules. As well, honor codes are “rule[s] to obey” (Vangelli). They are a “belief[s] in the integrity of human begins” which help students and teachers continue their academic curriculum without any type of cheating (Vangelli). “[T]he use of honor codes” in schools such as Achieve Early College High School helps the teachers and the staff prevent any case of cheating and plagiarism (Dirmeyer and Cartwright). It demonstrates that honor codes are helping academic environment from any type of dishonest behavior from the students. “Students [now are more believing in] honor codes” and they are following the rules according to what has been “discussed in class and on the syllabus” (Sledge and Pringle). Honor codes are an arranged set of rules or moral ideas or laws that establish strict educational setting founded on crucial philosophies that portrays with a worthy performance inside the educational setting. The practice of honor systems trust on the notion of individuals in the educational setting can be reliable or not and they act ethically correct or not. Individuals within the educational setting that fails to obey the honor code can be accountable to numerous penalties depending what the honor code of each school declares. The penalties can be dismissal from the school. Honor codes use to avoid any type of educational deceitfulness, such as stealing work form others. As a scholar of Achieve Early College High School, we must preserve our honor system because it stops copying from each other around scholars, acknowledges discipline inside the educational setting, and it represents scholars as liable and truthful individuals among the educational setting. Students will not copy each other because they know there is an honor code that will punish them. Students in schools with honor codes have the regiment to follow orders and laws.
