My previous summer experience is one of the most unforgettable moments in my life. Before the summer class starts, we go to our friend’s house in Quezon. We visited his parents and we headed to his own house, it was a nice and big house wherein we’re really comfortable, their parents sends us food, we have our own helpers there. Tito Dan and Tita Mhel were so hospitable. When I came to Tita Chiva’s house, I saw there a beautiful and new gown, I just talk to myself at that time and said that, someday, I’m gonna wear a gown that is as beautiful as this one. And i was so shocked when she told me that this gown will be the gown that I will wear on the fashion show and on the Grand Santacruzan that will be on the Cathedral. I was so happy at that time, because for me, it’s such a pleasure to wear one of her greatest collection. The fashion show on Villa Escudero was so fun, we met a lot of people, politician, we met some celebrities and some professional models. In this excerpt from A Summer Life, Gary Soto recounts a memory from his early childhood. As he walks through his memory, Soto recalls the effects sin had on his still developing mind; however, looking back as an adult, Soto realizes that the root cause of his naive fear was his Catholic upbringing. Soto satirizes the Church in an attempt to prevent the perpetuation of the overbearing “Catholic guilt” on younger generations through the use of this powerful anecdote. From the beginning of the excerpt, it is quite easy to see that Gary Soto was raised in a Christian household. He states that he “was holy in almost every bone” thereby implying through hyperbole that he held a very extreme point of view when it came to his religious purity, yet he gives a caveat with the word “almost.”…

Summertime was always the best part of the year for me. I always looked forward to when my aunt would start to pack her things in our small living room in New York City. She would tell me, "Now Dill, start packin' your clothes and fix your playthings so that we can leave early tomorrow mornin'," and I would always scramble into my room and stuff my favorite changes of clothes along with my prized posessions into one large bag. Once I was done, I would throw it one the pile of my aunt's luggage and beg her to hire out a pilot to fly us into Maycomb. "C'mon Aunt Sally, I've saved up all my money so's that we can fly on in on one of those huge airplanes," I would plead.…

Throughout the year our planet Earth rotates along an axis of rotation around the Sun. Over the course of a year, the angle of tilt does not fluctuate. This means that the Earth’s hemispheres are always pointing at their respected directions in space. However, the orientation of Earth’s tilt with respect to the sun does change as we orbit the sun; thus giving us our source of light and warmth. The Southern and Northern Hemispheres take turns being oriented toward the sun for half of the year and away from the sun for the other half.…
