The 16 sections of the SDS consists of:
Identification: This section lists all the names and aliases the chemical has, the necessary contact information of the supplier, such as their address and phone number, etc, and detailed suggestions of ways the product could be utilized and …show more content…
If used properly, then no special safety precautions for handling are necessary.
Exposure Controls/Personal Protection: This section talks about the limits of exposure and the ways to minimize it. Control the parameters when using the chemical. Personal protective equipment need to be worn. Before taking breaks and after finished handling, hands must be thoroughly washed. Protective synthetic gloves and safety glasses must be worn during handling.
Physical and Chemical Properties: This section describes the appearance and other important qualities of the chemical, such as boiling and freezing points. Ethidium bromide is a colourless and odourless liquid. The melting point is 0°C. The boiling point is undetermined. The vapour pressure at 20°C is 23 hPa and the density is 1.00001g/cm³. It is fully miscible with water. The content of the solvent is 0.0% organic solvent, 99.0% water, and 0.1% solids.
Stability and Reactivity: This section gives account to expected ways the chemical will react and the stability of it during handling and storage. It also talks about ways it could react …show more content…
It is not a carcinogen.
Ecological Information (non-mandatory): This section spell out possible situations that will arise from the exposure of the chemical to the environment. There is not much information concerning this, except that it is usually not hazardous for water.
Disposal Considerations (non-mandatory): This one talks about the proper methods and containers for disposal. It is recommended to be given over to disposers of hazardous waste. It must not be gotten rid of the same way as (and together with) household garbage. Prevent the waste from reaching the sewage system. When disposing the packaging, official regulations must be followed. Use water with cleansing agents.
Transport Information (non-mandatory): This section has information considering the ways to transport the chemicals. The UN-Number is UN2810. The proper shipping name is “TOXIC LIQUID, ORGANIC, N.O.S. (Ethidium Bromide Solution)” (bio-rad). The transport hazard class is 6.1 toxic substances. The packing group is III. It is not an environmental hazard. The danger code is 60. The EMS number is F-A, S-A. The UN “Model Regulation” is “UN2810, TOXIC LIQUID, ORGANIC, N.O.S., 6.1, III”
