Clinical Reflection: Teamwork, Communication, And Confidence

Improved Essays
Teamwork and collaboration, good communication, and confidence are the three strengths I believe I demonstrated during this rotation. My clinical rotation as a student nurse did not only imply observing the providers, but also meant active participation on my part. Being engaged, enabled me to put into practice what I have learned in theory. The first day of my rotation, the nurse permitted me to augment the Pitocin dose by two units after 20 minutes. I thought that was exciting because I learned about the medication in the class and participated in administering it. When the patient was in labor and began pushing, I aided in supporting one of her legs while the nurse supported the other. I think it was truly amazing to see a child being brought into the world. The postpartum care was also a teamwork. While my preceptor was getting the ice pack, I filled the peri-bottle with warm water and placed dry tower on the bathroom floor to prevent falls. I remembered from class lecture to check for clots in the urine because abnormal size (golf ball size) can be concerning. Therefore, I looked in the commode …show more content…
Teamwork and collaboration and good communication skills are essential in my future rotation and future career because a team not an individual is required to provide care for the patients. Good communication will help to prevent unwanted outcome(s). Therefore, learning how to communicate and collaborate with others will be beneficial especially for the patients. Confidence will most certainly enable me to apply acquired skills and knowledge in future clinical rotations and to make the transition from theory to practice as a novice

These competencies are influenced by knowledge, skills, attitudes and values of those involved in the health care team (CIHC, 2010). When we meet these competencies we are then able to come together and work efficiently as one team of health care providers. I value the concept of collaborative practice, as it has a direct and positive impact on my client. As health care professionals, our focus should be on health outcomes of those we care for. Kat took me to the ambulance and showed me the things we would need in each case that we would go to and no matter what the case was the two things they would need is the medicine bag and the stretcher. Then we went through the ambulance and she showed me where most of the equipment was and the medications. As she was showing them to me she was checking their expiration dates and how much was left of each medication that they used often. We then had our first case in the city of Newburgh courthouse.…

Over the past semester I have learned a great deal from the clinical experiences I have encountered at East Pavilion and on the Sentara Norfolk General Rehabilitation floor. Through these humbling experiences, I have gained a new appreciation for the ability to perform simple day to day tasks such as bathing, dressing, and even walking on my own. These tasks I often take for granted and forget that what I consider a simple task may be a difficult or painful chore for others. As I reflect on my experiences, I have identified some similarities and differences in the experiences at both facilities.…

Communication is important as it can help you understand what another person is expressing about their needs and concerns. It includes the ability to develop a relationship with other professionals or patients. Communication is vital in a clinical setting as it increases professionalism, eliminates possibilities for misconduct and enables the service users to receive the best possible care. I chose to reflect on my communication, as before I started this module I thought my communication skills were fine. But learning more about the different types of communications there are and how to use them in a practical situation, made me realise that there is a lot more to this skill and how much I need to develop to ensure that they are…
