The advertisement team for Bloomingdales had the job to come up with an advertisement that I guess would make people want to shop their for Christmas and other holidays during the winter? Well, the “image” that they chose to include was not only in bad taste but it was also outright inappropriate and disturbing. It is surprising that about a week after this advertisement has really come into the public eye, very little comes up when you search “Bloomingdale Sexist Ad”. The only credible source that I was able to locate was the coverage that MSNBC did on this story. What exactly does the image entail?
Pictured on the advertisement are a white male and female who are probably 30 or so. They are dressed very fancifully and the woman is laughing and looking away from the male. We live in a culture of rape, in which a woman is criticized for what she wears and is accused of “liking” the sex that was forced upon her. This image is disturbing to look at, as a woman who lives in this society. If in 2015 this is the type of advertisement that people think is funny and makes people want to purchase the good that this advertisement is attempting to sell, I would say that we have a much longer way to go than we previously thought, in order to reach
