There were groups made protesting the advertisement but there were also groups made to support it, saying that the ad is instead showing a strong women who is not looking at the domineering man and is not reaching out to accept the diamond necklace and who in spite of the abuse and what she is going through, got up and got her hair done to show that the man does not have full control of her. This advertisement expresses a lot of emotion. It might bring out feelings in women of underminement, to sympathy, anger, and maybe even to some men it might strike up feelings of empowerment. The pathos in this advertisement are very important because there are very few words in the advertisement so you mostly have to go off emotions. Most women who would see this advertisement would just see the abused women with the man lurking in the background getting ready to bribe the women with nice things and automatically feel like women are being undermined as usual and sympathy for what the women is going through.
