Ponithea’s mother pulled out a small burlap bag. It jangled as it was set in Ponithea’s warm grasp. Ponithea smiled, just for a moment, in the realization that she still had family that cared, even while her father was being despicable. She wished a farewell to her siblings, and set off on her way. All she carried with her was a little food, a canteen, the ticket to Erimos, and her mother’s gift to her. She had never been outside of the palace by herself before, and took the liberty to look around a while before her boat arrived. As she strolled, she witnessed the same shops that had always been there. Still run by the old men and women who had run them since retiring from their laborious jobs. Suddenly, the loud whistle of a steamboat rang in Ponithea’s ears, giving her a quick rush of adrenaline. In this sudden rush, she transformed into a pigeon and flew towards the boat. She perched on the railing of the boat just as it started to take off. An employee approached Ponithea, and she grew stiff. “Shoo! Once she regained a sense of direction, the ship had left, far from sight.
“Well, now what am I supposed to do?”, she muttered to herself, shocked and confused.
She tried to visualize the map of the region that had been in her home, but her mind only drew a blank. Knowing that she couldn’t stay in one spot forever, she started flying south, hoping to find dry land before it grew too dark. In the far distance, she heard the call of a ship, but decided it’d be against her own interests. After nearly four hours of flying, she saw a small island and flew with full speed towards it. As she landed, she morphed back into a human and collapsed on the shore, unconscious. Ponithea awoke to a slight peck on her knee and a faint call of a songbird. Her eyes fluttered open, and she saw a dark outline of a young boy. “Are you okay, miss?”, he whispered impishly. “I’ll let you guess”, Ponithea muttered in a sarcastic tone. “Well, there’s no need for your sass, I’m just here to help.” “Alright. Well, who are you, and where am I?” “My name is Elpidos, and you’re in the small village of Proorismos, on the island of Chara.”
“Excuse me, did you just say island of Chara?”
“Yes... Why do you ask?”
“It’s a long story, but how far is the castle?’ “Probably a three days walk away.” “Alright. Do you mind
