Personal Narrative: My Military Schedule

Improved Essays
I am in the military, so my typical schedule is often repetitive, but has a history of changing rapidly because the mission comes first. Despite having this work environment, I tend to have a consistent schedule. My weekdays begin with morning runs at 05:30 a.m. I often finish just in time to take a shower and head to work. Work starts at 8:00 a.m., and I usually work until lunch at 11:30 a.m. Around this time, I would have gone to lunch with everyone else, but now I use the time to fit in a small study session with myself. By not taking my lunch, I get an extra 1 ½ hour to study my class material. Afterwards, I head straight back to work. At 4:00 p.m., everyone is just about ready to head home. I close the armory up around 4:30 p.m. marking the end of my workday. In the past, I used to head home, but now I stay 1½ hour to study in the empty building. After dinner, I use to watch TV or play online, but now I use that 1 ½ hour to fit in one last study session. When I’m done, I spend time with my wife and head to bed. This schedule is the same throughout the week. The weekends on the other hand, is where I get most of my study time and relaxation in. On the weekends, I cheat myself and sleep in. I get up around 7:30 a.m. and start my study session. My wife is used to me being at work around this time, so it plans in my favor to use this time to study. She gets up at noon and acts like an alarm for me. Once she is up, I stop for the day. After finishing my weekend studies, I spend the rest of the day having fun with my wife and friends. Sunday plays out the same way, but with football added. This schedule works well, but can be affected by outside

During my time in the Army, I have had plenty of obstacles, one in particular would be when I was a RTO (radio tech operator) and we were attached to another battalion to go raid a village. We patrolled all night until we walked twelve miles to our location avoiding helicopters flying in the sky looking for us. Once we finally set up an OP (observation post) we had a team go out and recon the village and we established a plan on how we were going to attack the village. My squad only had about nine of us, so we were not initially part of the main element to go in and assault the village. However, as we started creeping up to the first obstacle, a fence, helicopters started patrolling for us again.…

At the end of my time use study, I wanted to determine if I was occupationally balanced and then discover the activities I engage in most often. When a person is occupationally balanced, it does not mean that their time is divided equally amongst all occupations; instead, it is when a person is perceived to be under control. Carr, are taking up to fifteen credits a semester-the equivalent of five classes-all while putting in twenty hours of work into their already busy schedule. These students need to learn how to maintain equilibrium between working and attending classes in order to be successful in both elements.…

When I first began this class I thought that this would be just another introductory class that is required to orient you to the expectations of the particular college. Now, after completing this class, I know that this is not the case. Personal Dimensions of Learning has been a great help, not only to my school work, but also in my daily life. I never liked this strategy, but it always seemed to be the most convenient way to get things done at school, home, and work.…
