The team of women that work at Dress Barn are perfect, especially as I plan to continue an education. While my goal is to a university, it must wait until I can begin to pay off my student loans and become better established within life. Honestly, without SouthWestern Michigan College and their greatly helpful staff I’m not sure where I would be today. Staying in the dorms, I learned so many important lessons, patience being the utmost valuable! Growing up a single child, I never truly needed to share. So staying in the dorms was an interesting opportunity to really test my newfound patience. I also learned many valuable life lessons and received an abundance of helpful advice at SouthWestern Michigan College. Being proactive instead of reactive was one of the best sayings I ever heard in Business 201 – Principles of Management with Stacey Horner. This is one of the best classes I could recommend to anyone, reading “Who Moved My Cheese” is what in fact inspired me. Several other helpful classes I would recommend are; Educational Exploration, Intro to Computer Technology, Intro to Meetings and Events, Professionalism Workshop, Business Law I, Micro and Macro Economics, Human Resource Management, and Two Dimensional Design. However, I believe it will be a virtuous loop and lead me to where I need to be in life. While I have always dreamt of becoming a teacher, I’m contemplating putting that on hold and possibly take my education a bit slower. Yet I do not wish to stop completely. Recently I have been looking for transfer colleges to continue receiving a Bachelor’s and eventually Master’s degree in Accounting and Economics. Once I have what I deem enough experience I wish to teach high school and/or college in hopes of helping the future learn to handle money responsibly and educate them about the world through economics. So far, the ultimate beneficial knowledge that this internship has brought me is the opportunity to improve my leadership ability, planning, and organizational skills. After all, as a teacher, your job is full of meticulously detailed lessons for students. The least beneficial was probably the learning part, I felt as if I was on my own to learn a large majority of the training. I’ve taught myself much of the information about the company, layout regulations, the register, and many aspects of the store. Luckily there are multiple binders with this information that is available to read.
