“Now when you are ready you can slide the safety switch over to the fire your gun should glow red when you do. Today your goal is to score the most points. The closer you get to the bullseye the more points you can get. You can fire when ready and when you run out of ammo set your gun down and flip the switch to safety. Oh and there is one other thing, you will rarely fire at stationary targets.” He reached up and pulled a lever down the targets began to move back and forth. “Now go.”
I then flipped the switch to fire. The gun began to glow a crimson red. I aimed my gun through a sight and guided it right at the bullseye where the man’s brain would be. I held my breath and fired. A brilliant red laser shot out of the gun and streaked towards the bullseye and hit it with defining impact. I fired the rest of the rounds which hit mostly around the target. “Alright!” belowed the instructor “Take of you earmuffs and safety glasses!”

He explained that back home, they shot at turkeys’ heads from 150 yards away! “We tied the turkey behind a log, and every time it bobbed up its head we let fly with those old muzzle loaders of ours. We paid ten cents a shot and if we hit the turkey's head we got to keep the whole turkey.” According to Alvin, “army shooting was tolerably easy” for him.…

As I stared across the bullet-torn battlefield I wondered how I ended up here; hiding behind a crumbling wall, clutching my gun as though it were a lifeline. How the young kid I'd once been now bore a dirty, camouflage patterned uniform. There I was, contemplating my life in the middle of a battle. I shouldn't have been surprised when a hand suddenly shot out in front of my face and smacked me upside the head. It was so unexpected that I nearly stumbled out from behind the rubble and right into the bullet whizzing by.…

All the years I’ve lived on Elm Street I have never seen any sign of life in the house across the street, except a family that moved in and moved out only a few weeks later. It’s kind of mysterious actually, and I’ve always wanted to go up to it and walk in to explore. My parents have told me the things they have heard about the house, like there was an “old man whose wife passed away right there in the house, and her spirit still lurks”, maybe that’s why the families have never stayed for more than a month. Sometimes I’ve even caught myself staring at the house from my top window trying to spot things. I want to uncover the real truth about the house that I find myself overwhelmed.…

I was visiting my family in minnesota, staying at my Aunt’s house a few weeks before my birthday. I was watching cartoons with her and significantly older-than-me cousin in their shared bedroom. I can faintly remember the room, Table in one corner, and two separate beds in the other. An ancient boxed tv sat at the foot of their beds, with the VHS tape built in. We all joked around, hitting each other with pillows during previews and drinking soda past 10 pm.…
