The performance Triad is a complete plan to improve readiness and increase our ability to bounce back from illness and adversity, though public health initiatives and leadership engagement. The Triad is the foundation for the army Medicine’s transformation towards a system for health. It is composed of a combination among soldiers, family’s leaders, health teams and communities working together to promote readiness, resilience, and responsibility. Sleep is a biological need for brain function and is critical for maintain the mental abilities required for success on the battlefield and in our day to day life. Soldiers require seven to eight hours of sleep in a period of 24 hrs.’ to sustain operational readiness. When Soldiers don’t get enough sleep their performance suffers putting themselves and comrades at risk for continued errors, is a treat to mission success (Perormance Triad A Leaders Guide and Planner, 2013). According to a study on Sleep as component of the Performance triad, sleep is a problem among soldiers. Poor sleep is associated with increase in obesity, metabolic syndrome, and a contributor to decrease in performance. Poor sleep in not only associated with increase in obesity but in increase in depression, anxiety and other mental health issue, association have also been mane to a pro-inflammatory state. Disturbances with the circadian rhythms have showed to affect some endocrine parameters and metabolic pathways, insulin resistance, and immunologic alteration. It helps anticipate and solve problems generate solutions in the battlefield even a small edge in reaction time, situation awareness and problem solving can be critical in mission success. The more sleep a Soldier has on a regular basis the more resilient the Soldier is to future sleep loss. We can call it a sleep reserve that can be tapped later during high tempo operations. But we have to keep in mind that in only a few days of decrease in sleep performance can decline.
