The goals of the PBIS system are clearly defined In the Higher Ground Academy rules in which the majority of the students are required to sign on the beginning weeks of the school registration, the documentation read “I, as a student am expected to behave according to the rules set forth by my teacher and well do so to the best of my abilities.” The documentation says, “To the best of my abilities” because certain students will have a disability that will interfere with their behavioral/academic expectations. By upholding students to a higher behavioral standard and treating them as grownups, the school creates a sense of overall PBIS awareness. Immediately after that, it is the roles of the support staff, administrator, teacher, and paraprofessional’s responsibilities to introduce classroom setting and rules to all students, also to clarify expectations, and assure that students will be held accountable for inappropriate behaviors with their following consequences. As with everything else that has structure, I observed that there are three guidelines that a teacher must follow before evaluations are introduced; first, the teacher must make rules clear to all students and make sure that the students comprehend it. The worst thing that could potentially occur is to mistakenly fill out the wrong paper work for a student that does not need to be in PBIS setting. A student that does not understand, is a student bound to fail. Second; the teacher must not focus too much attention on single student’s behaviors, as this would cause future problems, and also it’s best to compare the student’s behavior with peers instead. Third; the student needs to go through citizenship and reflect on why the behavior(s) is inappropriate, how it can be prevented next, and the necessary measure that need to be taken as consequences for those behavior(s). Citizenship is open to all teachers k-12, furthermore it is also operated by a team of behavioral analysts and in cooperation with the special ed
