It was a Persian fairy tale about a guy who could be whatever he desired. And from that day on, began my journey of dreaming. I dreamt of things every kid in school dreams of - ranging from being an astronaut to being the coolest kid in college.
A few years down the line, with an engineering degree in my bag, I got into Schlumberger. And this is what changed my life. No, I did not stop dreaming. Rather, I backed it with determination, passion and integrity. Here overcoming barriers such as language, culture, age and climate, as a Drilling Engineer I led multinational, multidisciplinary teams through challenges I initially saw as insurmountable.
Afterwards I had the opportunity to engage with different students in multiple career workshops which gave me a true epiphany. Straight away I knew I must work to reduce the alarmingly high graduate unemployment rate (47%) in Bangladesh. In order to make this happen, I got involved with two university career centers as a part-time counselor. Connecting with students from diverse backgrounds and getting a glimpse of their success through my small efforts are deeds I hold close to my heart. So to continue advocating for large scale change, I want to be a Strategic Consultant. As a consultant, I want to be a fearless thinker who inspires and executes transformational ideas and strategies that expand employment opportunities for the youth of today. In order to make this happen, post MBA I want to gain first-hand experience working for a global consulting firm which is committed to youth unemployment. To make this transition, I know I lack the profound understanding of different tools such as organizational strategies, financial services, asset valuation and business modeling. Although I have worked in impactful roles, soon I realized that my goals can only be accomplished by addressing these gaps at a rigorous MBA program. After a comprehensive analysis, I am confident Foster could offer such direction through its extensive adept faculty and tailored curriculum. Furthermore, talking with Jacob Childs, a second year student and learning about his journey from Schlumberger to Deloitte really helped me to relate at a personal level and reinforced my beliefs.
