As a junior at Northville High School, I am already discovering my passion for business through my participation and leadership roles in organizations such as DECA. I have obtained not only extensive marketing and general business knowledge through self-studying for competitive tests, but also practical communication, presentation, and sales skills while representing various business professionals in judged roleplay scenarios. I have placed at the district, state, and international level in my events, and this year I will have competed at the International Career Development Conference for my third year. These experiences give me a good foundation of understanding business concepts, and I plan to learn more about how businesses operate in the global market through the Business is Global program at the Kelley School of Business. …show more content…
Thus, learning about international business can help me understand some customs and cultural differences among various countries. I understand that language is a barrier in business and if not taken seriously, can lead to consequences such as misinterpretations of marketing campaigns to failed business deals. One does not want to offend a client from a different country and sometimes small actions can be perceived differently across different cultures. There are also different regulations in different countries that dictate what companies have the right to do. Through this program at the Kelley School of Business, I hope to learn some of the customs and culture of East Asia, East Africa, and Turkey. When I attend college and move beyond, I will have had this opportunity to have a general understanding that can help prepare me if I need to encounter a situation such as doing business with a client from a foreign
