Initially, I was aware that I am an auditory learner before taking the learning style assessment. However, I also assumed that I would score higher as a visual learner on the questionnaire. According to my learning style results, I scored a total of thirty-two points for auditory preferences for learning, compared to my scoring for both visual and tactile learning style that resulted in twenty-six points. After evaluating my assessment, I can recall from my past experiences in several of my science courses, where I used auditory learning style more during class lectures compared to visual style. My finding from the self-assessment comes as no surprise. I have a kinesthetic learning style, but both visual and auditory styles are close behind, I have become flexible in learning styles, depending on the subject I am studying will determine the type of style works best to obtain the most of the information, for example, I will gain more on new work instruction at work by practicing the process several times before I am comfortable; although, when learning stories from the bible, I pick up more by discussing the topic with other church members during bible study. I am a visual learner for standardized information, I absorb best by reading the information. My temperament is a director, again, this comes at no surprise. I am a result-driven…

According to the learning style quiz I am a auditory/tactile learner, and I only somewhat agree with my quiz results. I do not believe I am an auditory learner in the slightest. Auditory learners work well in study groups, and thrive on lectures and oral instructions. Whereas i like quiet areas to read to myself and learn better by having directions or map in my hands to get where i am going. Auditory learners may also read to themselves out loud to make sure they remember what they are learning.…

The results show that I will probably learn better from visual aids and hands on verses just by reading. When I was required to read out of a book and take a test, I have to reread parts of the text to completely understand it.…

Not all learning styles can fit into a specific situation, there are times when a kinesthetic style is better than an aural. By becoming proficient in all learning styles, I would become flexible in all learning situations. The student should be able to shift towards the professors teaching styles in addition to exceling in their learning environment. Now, I work the best with the aural, kinesthetic, and read/write learning styles, with the weakest like being the visual learning style. By taking the content learned to the next level by shifting it across learning styles, I would gain a greater understanding towards it.…

Richardson (1994, p. 5) concludes his study by making the observation that “... mature students were rather more likely than younger students to adopt a deep approach or a meaning orientation towards their academic work, and .... were conversely less likely than younger students to adopt a surface approach or a reproducing orientation.” Other determinants of academic performance not discussed above include self-motivation, family income, and parents’ level of education. While a positive relationship between self-motivation and academic performance has been established (Zimmerman, Bandura, & Martinez-Pons, 1992), the effect of family income and parents’ level of education on academic performance is far from being unravelled without equivocation. Socioeconomic status of students and their families show moderate to strong relationship with academic performance (Sirin, 2005) but these relationships are contingent upon a number of factors such that it is nearly impossible to predict academic performance using socioeconomic status. Methodology and methods…
