Instructional Coaching: The Need for Educational Leaders The average person when he or she hear the words “good coach” thinks of NFL superstars, such as Bill Belichick, the New England Patriots’ coach who has led his team to numerous Super Bowl victories. I feel there is quite a bit of truth to Bambrick-Santoyo’s comparison of coaching teacher leaders to Stone Soup. On our campus we have four members who make up our Instructional Leadership Team (ILT). ILT consists of our principal, assistant principal, our Language Arts instructional coach, and myself. Even with the four of us coaching teachers, it is still difficult to provide quality coaching to all of our teachers on campus. Most of our attention goes to our teachers who are “on fire” and, as a result, our other teachers are provided little coaching.…

The world of education as we know it is a place built on a foundation that is surrounded by enigmas and empty promises. It is for this reason that America has yet to find an effective solution that works for schools nationwide that is “progressive” as well as “consistent” in the field of education. The issues surrounding education seem to share the same common factors of race, high expectations, and hidden agendas.…

As an adult I still play competitively and for the last 15 years have coached at the University and High School levels and I have found that truly investing in the success of others is a daily necessity. Teamwork is vital and having a collective objective is the basis for being a Transformational Leader; motivating subordinates using the common goal through, encouragement, support and respect to achieve the desired result is the ultimate target. When I received the call from Mrs. Betty Cox offering me the position of teaching 4th grade at Owens Elementary School I never imagined I would have the opportunity to influence the lives of students and teachers in the Tyler Independent School District for the past 26 years. I strengthen and improve the teaching profession by being a life-long learner and accepting any invitation to train veteran or novice teachers in the areas of Reading, Math or Data Based Assessment. During my tenure as an Instructional Strategies Facilitator in Tyler ISD, I modeled appropriate instructional strategies in teacher’s classrooms trained in the Spalding Method. Even though I was a novice at being a trainer and working in other teachers classrooms, I learned a valuable lesson, when you want a desired outcome, it is very important to model your expectations. Instead of visiting the teachers’ classrooms and watching the teachers work with their students, I modeled and allowed the teacher to watch me work with their students.…

The field of research may have many different approaches to conclude with a purpose to approach a relationship or answer a question. As researchers approach their goal, the traditional processes of research are engrossed in gathering, examining, and asking questions to identify better possible insight (Fassinger, & Morrow, 2013).
