The first issue to be addressed is the fact that he has lost sight of his original intention of his Merrymen. Instead, it’s gotten more and more out of hand. He thought he needed more men, but as he brought in more and more min, they had excessive necessities that the Merrymen could not fill. He believed that the true strength was in number, but the bigger the numbers, the more complicated his revolt was. He needs to address the growth of the Merrymen. While at the beginning, accepting many men without any requirements was a good decision, as the group grew exponentially in numbers, that was no longer a smart option. Discuss how these concepts impact Robin’s band of Merrymen:
a. (10 pts). Division of labor
If everyone would master an individual trade, they could take down the sheriff much faster. The organization of the Marrymen would be much stronger or more well put together. Their productivity would go much higher and they would be much more successful as a group.
b. (10 pts). Unity of command
The unity of command would help by allowing each leader know the members of the group. This would help with the problem of the sheriff being able to send spies. If everyone was responsible to a specific supervisor and each one was given a limited number of “employees”, then Robin wouldn’t need to know everyone, just the leaders. It would ensure that everything the group does is as Robin Hood has commanded them to do so he knows the larger the group grows, the less he has to worry about them departing from his original mission as they are now. They wouldn’t be acting on their own, instead they’d act on the command of the leaders of the Merrymen.
d. (10 pts). Discipline
The effectiveness of the employees would depend on their willingness to follow the orders of their superiors. If there was no discipline they would never achieve their established standards or expected job performance. The performance gap would be too great for them to really achieve anything. It is essential to any organized action. You can mold the members with rewards or penalties giving them discipline. With discipline comes molded employees and molded employee’s causes greater success with the group.
e. (10 pts). Esprit de corps
With this, the group is better well put together. It maintains the cohesion to the group. You can divide the competition to take down individual parts, but dividing your team is a huge issue. You can give them individual tasks as long as the work as a unit. With everything above this comes an unstoppable organization. If Robin Hood did all of these things, his group would defeat the sheriff and overpower them without question. His group just requires serious
