In the Carrizo Springs National Honor Society I am an officer, I am the secretary. In my high school’s marching band I am the drum major, which is the authority figure right under the band director. Last, but not least I am the Vice President of my high school’s student council. My freshman year I also played a leadership role, I was the vice president of the class of 2016. Lawyers are leaders, the decision makers, defenders. Playing the leadership roles in these organizations will help me in the future because a characteristic a lawyer must have is leadership. I must be able to make wise decisions and as the drum major, when the band director is not present I must step up and be able to know what the next move is. Leaders must also set the example. I set the example for my fellow band, National Honor Society, and student council, members. I set the example by maintaining good grades, behavior, and character. Part of my job as a leader is to inspire others. I inspire other members of the organizations I participate in to do better, academically and mentally. I inspire others to do better academically by making good grades and maintaining a high rank in my class. Mentally I inspire others to do better by having a positive attitude. My positivity inspires others to have positive attitudes to make bumps in the road smoother. Being a member of two honor societies, I am required to have academic honesty. As a leader within my high school, I have learned to set the example for other students and make wise decisions. Aside from being a leader in school, I am a leader every day at home. I am the oldest of four girls, therefore my sisters look up to me. Because of my standing in school and the organizations that I partake in, I inspire my sisters to do the same. Being a leader is a role I play every day, whether it is in school or at

As a sophomore, I had to opportunity to get lots of playing time in varsity games and being a young player on the team, getting big playing time, I felt I had to take the leadership role in my sophomore class. Now that I am a senior on the team, I feel more of that weight on my shoulders. Being on the court most of the time, I feel it’s part of my duty, on and off the court, to be a leader for the girls. Keeping them serious in practice to just being someone they look up to when they need guidance, I feel those situations is what really taught me the leadership qualities. I want to be a member of the Matoaca National Junior Honor Society because I believe it will be able to help motivate me. Although I find that I am NJHS material, I think that this will be able to help me know that I am working for something, and thereby make it more urgent to do good. For example, my time in Scouts has shown me the importance of setting goals. When I discovered that new requirements would be forced on you if you didn’t complete them by the end of the year, I began buckling down on my and others requirements (as assistant patrol leader, I am supposed to help my patrol members.) I earned my first leadership role at the age of two. At that age, I became my sister’s role model. It was up to me to teach her the tricks of the trade for everything-- from tying her shoes to studying for her first math test. Although I didn’t have any designated leadership positions during my early years of high school, it was the similarly intimate, accidental moments of leadership that colored my participation in my extracurriculars.…

Theo Haimann once said, “Leadership is the process by which an executive imaginatively directs, guides and influences the work of others in attaining specified goals.” I believe that is my strongest quality. When I was little, even my parents seemed to look to me when my brother and I had a task, even though it didn’t always abide well with my brother who didn’t like being “shown up” by his younger sibling. For every situation I am put in, I don’t just accept the “follower mentality.” I want others to look up to me as somebody they desire to follow, just like a leader in my life that I strive to emulate, my mentor and band director, John Gray.…
