One who hasn’t read the book first would never notice these differences, but in my case, where i've analyzed the story front to back, the differences were very clear. To start, I compared how the characters looked in the film as they were being introduced to how Hosseini describes them. Most of the characters lived up to how I personally imagined them except for one character, Assef. In the novel, Hosseini describes Assef as being half white with blondish hair and blue eyes. I did have a hard time picturing that when reading his description, but the film character looked nothing like he was described. This threw me off when seeing his character for the first time. Another thing i've noticed about the characters was how similar Amir and Hassan actually looked. I know they are supposed to be half brothers, but I thought the difference between the Pashtuns and Hazaras would be more noticeable.

This takes away from some of the dramatic dynamics in the ending such as Sohrab's attempt at suicide. Without this section in the movie, Sohrab's dramatic attempt at death was lost and since It never happened in the movie which took away from the suspense of life or death. Another part in the film which seemed off was the traveling to America also seemed very rushed and unrealistic, I understand that they needed to shorten it to not have any dull moments, but we know it was not that easy of a process and could have at least mentioned how they got
