The Kite Runner And Hamlet Comparison Essay

Time might not heal all wounds; but one’s careful actions might. Shakespeare’s play Hamlet and Khaled Hosseini’s novel The Kite Runner, are two different pieces of writing, written centuries apart, yet have countless common themes. Both Hamlet and The Kite Runner display similarities such as, the main characters continuous lack of activity, the relationships between the father and son, and both main characters right their wrongs and take action. To begin with, both Hamlet and Amir did not take action against the wrong that was happening around them, for their own benefit. In Hamlet, when Hamlet figures out that Claudius had killed his father, and his father’s ghost is also telling him to take revenge against his killer, he plots many schemes, but seems incapable of actually committing to his plans. This is proven when Hamlet sees Claudius alone and vulnerable, which is probably the perfect chance you have to kill someone, but he stopped, reasoning that the situation was not right. When Hamlet entered the room he saw Claudius praying and said to himself;
“Up, sword, and know thou a more horrid hent.” (Act 3, Scene 3)

After a while of telling Sohrab everything was going to be alright, he accepted to come to America and start a life there. Now Amir’s guilt is gone and he has righted his wrongs. In Conclusion, in both Hamlet and The Kite Runner, the main characters experience guilt and tragedy which is a result of their inactiveness, have an unstable relationship with their fathers, and at the end prove that there is always an opportunity for redemption. This clearly shows that there is a direct relation between active choice and the life lived. One must wonder the impact of their own decisions, and tragedy is only a few decisions
