“Look!, an old, abandoned campsite,” I yelled,”I hope it's not just a mirage,” she thought. “I see it!” Jenny gasped. “there might be food there, or maybe someone to rescue us!” we walked over there and saw nothing but some old, gross alligator jerky. Jenny wasn’t so pleased.
“if you want to survive, you have to eat it,” I told jenny. “ugh, it’s all sticky” gina said, Jenny gagged, “uhg, it tastes horrible.”
“well would you rather die?” I asked. “huuhhhh, whatever,” Jenny sighed. “hey who dat?!” a man’s voice shouted. “*gasp*, did you hear that?”, I whispered

“I’m sorry but no one’s gonna save you bye,” the man said.
He was pretty rude about it too. I asked him if he could at least give us some food and water, so he gave us a gallon of water and a box of what he called “cheese n crackers” but when we looked in the box on our way to trying to find someone to save us, we saw they were actually flairs, I couldn't believe my eyes! He really was crazy! We shot one in the air every 15 min. or so and by the third time, someone found us! It was some people in a helicopter! We were rescued! They came down and picked us up but we told them we had to go back for the crazy man we saw, so we flew over and got him.

The earth beneath their feet had long since morphed into oozing, black mud that sucked at their feet and legs. The pounding of artillery shells, the booming of massive guns, the sharp crack of rifles, and the smell of gunpowder were without pause. Blood-splattered bodies were sprawled on the trenches. The screams of agony and the earth-shattering crashes of shells would be enough to drive even the most stalwart to insanity.…

911 Hero On September 12, 2001, one day after four planes were hijacked by Osama Bin Laden's crew, causing one to go into the pentagon, one to land in a field in Pennsylvania, and two into the tallest buildings in New York City, the Twin Towers. The sky is dark, damp, and warm, the slight red undertones are glowing through the clouds. I never expected something like this to happen in my short lifetime, Mauna Loa was erupting for the first time in twenty-five years. I watched as the ash rained down on the roofs of nearby houses, coating the entire town in what could have been perceived as warm, black snow. I felt my heart rise into my throat, causing me to choke out a dry sob. I was twenty-one, I finally had a house, and now I was going to die in this massive storm of lava and rubble.…

September 11, 2001 was a day that shook America to its core, but to me, it had little meaning. Though, it probably should have. My dad is a pilot for United Airlines and he was piloting a flight on this dreadful day. As if it wasn’t bad enough that he was in the air, he was in the same airspace as the hijackers that took over the first plane to hit the towers.…

When we had gotten back to the house he went straight to work on firing up our charcoal grill so he could make dinner. (Grilling was something I had noticed he like to do to help take his mind off things.) Soon after, it wasn’t long before he seemed back to his old self, even joking about grilling up a couple of those cats from the cemetery and feeding them to the local dogs. I just ignored his lame attempt at being funny, electing to go to my room to retrieve my cell phone off its charger, and to my surprise, it had a voice message on it from Tucker, Owen, and Lettie. When I called them back I had gotten the tall-and-skinny on what had gone on in Saraland since I had left.…
