Karma Hi, I’m Hue Small I’m 13 years old. Recently my family was killed. It is June 12, 1863, we live in Pennsylvania. When I say “we” I mean my younger brother Trey and I. My family was really close to each other. I had 2 sisters, 1 brother and then my mom and stepdad. My family was ambushed because my stepdad was a leader of the Union Army. Trey and I were in the back of the woods fishing at a pond. We heard gunshots, we ran back towards the house there were soldiers everywhere, we stayed in the woods hidden behind trees. The Confederate army knew my parents had 4 kids, what they didn’t know was the ages. There were 2 men with them, two men that worked with my dad, the soldiers thought it was Trey and I. We are going to find the men …show more content…
It was a nice, wealthy looking village, we heard kids screaming and playing, it smelled like wood burning and there was a lot of smoke. We walked near the entrance and Trey said that some of the kids looked familiar. “Trey , we need to find out where they keep information about the Union Army so we can find out why they chose to kill our family.” “There was a tent back there that said “soldiers only”.” “C’mon Trey, why didn’t you say something?” “Sorry I didn’t know that’s what we came for.” “Whatever, let’s go.” We came up on a small tent that smelled like gunpowder. “Okay, this is it.” Trey said. “Okay I want you to stand out here and watch, if someone comes within 20 yards I want you to distract them then I will slip out the back. When he starts coming towards the tent I want you to say, ‘Have a nice day!’ That will be your way of telling me to get out of there.” “Alright, hurry up so we can get out of this place.” Trey said. I walked into the tent it was dark, there were a few lit candles along the wall, in the middle was a long table with a map. I looked at the map, it showed routes through the woods and the town, and houses where Union Soldiers lived were circled and numbered. It looked to be a hit list because our house had an ‘x’ over it. They are targeting all of the Union Soldiers and their families. I heard voices outside so I moved quickly. Trey was talking to a soldier. “Hey buddy, where is your pin?” …show more content…
I made bread and honey, it tasted sweet. Around 6:30 we went outside to start the trip. First stop we made was to Drew Moreland’s. He has 2 kids, his wife passed away. I explained that everyone was being targeted, he said he will send out a messenger out so we don’t have to tell everyone. Drew had been in the army for about a year now.

Trey and I did some investigating on the map and the route shows that the Confederate is going to ambush the Union on Cemetery Hill. We went to the Union Camp and everyone knew about my family and thanked us for finding out that everyone was being targeted because a few men went to the next house and waited for the Confederates then killed them, they killed about 200 men at 4 houses. I sent Trey to go play with the other kids while I told them that they were going to get ambushed. They sent me back to the Confederate Camp to keep an eye out to see what else they were planning.

I go to the Confederate camp and I sit on the hill in a distance and watch. There were not as many men inside as there were outside, they had 5 men at every entrance then they had men in watch towers. They must’ve found out about their men being ambushed. They had groups of men chatting and the kids weren’t outside, they kept them in the tents for

Waiting to eat their delightful lunch with the wonderful scene of watching men be shot at, stabbed, and blown-up…but they were in for a huge surprise. They were met by a stampede of Confederates, charging fiercely head-on against the unsuspecting Union. All the soldiers had no time to stand and gape, they scurried to pick up what they could, and ran north, along with their picnic audience, away from the pack of Southern soldiers and were chased for miles without a single…

The Civil War was a devastating war that wiped out much of America’s population. The book written by James M. McPherson, What They Fought For 1861-1865, describes the views of the soldiers that fought in the war. McPherson uses letters left behind written by different civil war soldiers to portray a more round view of actions that took place on the battlegrounds. McPherson’s thesis does not present from both sides of the war what the soldiers, volunteers and enlisted men, of the Civil War had to faced, how they dealt with their emotions and experiences, the bond made between comrades, and how it affect their overall psychological, physical, and mental well-being of each combatant. This book contains diary entries from Union soldiers that were from the northern states.…

The book The Killer Angels by Micheal Shaara is about the battle of Gettysburg and attempts to convey the historical event by presenting it in a fashion that feels fictional, but is based on documents and letters that were set around that time. The book covers the event through the eyes of different confederate and union officers, and is told in such a way that you feel sympathetic to the characters because you can see their panic, and the decision making process that each officer uses. This book is separated into four sections these are; the day before, the two days of, and the day after. Each section has chapters that are written from the view of seven different characters, each character has a different importance. These characters are: The Spy, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, John Buford, James Longstreet, Robert E. Lee, Freemantle, and Lewis Armistead.…

The Contributions of Children and Youth to the American Civil War Political figures, leaders in power, and symbolic individuals such as Abraham Lincoln, and Ulysses S. Grant, are generally perceived by many to be major factors in the outcome of the Civil War. However, ordinary people that played smaller, although still significant roles are often forgotten; in particular, children and youth, including college boys who campaigned and raised anti-slavery awareness as well as fought in the war, young boys who engaged in battle and physically and tactically aided adult soldiers, and young women who supported soldiers from home in the midst of dysphoria and distress. Therefore, had it not been for the American youth of the 1860’s, the outcome…
