Exercise machines were introduced in the 1960”s into the still-rare strength training gyms of the time. In the 1970s , following the release of the bodybuilding movie Pumping Iron, and the subsequent popularity of Arnold Schwarzenegger , Weight training became increasingly popular. Increasing numbers of women have taken up weight training since the 1990”s, influenced by programs like “ Body for Life “.As of now, nearly one in five U.S. women engage in weight training on a regular basis.[3] The purpose of weight training is to give you the advantage of improved health. Lifting weights contributes to lowering blood pressure, raising good cholesterol levels (HDL), and lowering bad cholesterol levels (LDL). Weight training also contributes to great mental health. Those who engage in weight training experience increased self-esteem and feel more confident in themselves. Resistance training is a common weight training you would see when you walk into your local gym. As you lift heavy weights, your muscles resist the motion and tear slightly once you push them too hard. The tiny tears in the muscle are repaired by new muscle fiber, which causes the muscle itself to grow and get bigger. Resistance training follows a concept of progressive overload, which allows your muscles to lift a certain amount of weight for eight to 10 repetitions, but after that, it becomes very difficult and your muscles fatigue. At that point, increase the weight for your next workout so that after rest, you can push your muscles to adapt to a heavier weight.Free weight training has more to offer as it requires you to use muscles to stabilize the lifting of the weight. However, machines can be good for beginners who naturally don’t know too much exercises and raise an eyebrow at the mention of ‘good form. Bodybuilding is the best for making your muscles larger but not necessarily stronger. Power lifting is the best type of training for maximal strength. Power lifters focus on lifting an extremely heavy amount of weight for only a few repetitions. Circuit training is when you do a number of exercises in quick succession, usually lifting a light amount of weight for a high number of repetitions This type of training is ideal for burning fat, increasing endurance and making some gains in strength.
