For myself to understand and appreciate my Arab/Muslim patients, it is going to be crucial for me to learn about their individual religious beliefs, customs and if my patient has any particular traditions that they may be practicing.
As I am unfamiliar with what Christianity means to them, as well as not knowing what the characteristics of their Islamic faith entails.
When it comes to family, they spend a great deal of time doing things that are seeking the family’s approval.

Understanding what their particular part in their patriarch family system will also help me understand some of the possible problems that they may be running into as they try to assimilate to the Western culture.

I need to make sure that I am understanding the difficulties of their immigration and the fact that they left their homes, starting a new life, in a completely different country, that is thousands and thousands of miles away from their homeland. As this new way of living is going to pose its own host of problems for the patient as they try to assimilate to their new home, all while trying to make it feel like the one they left behind.
My patient’s individual belief system, will help me to understand their views and beliefs in their own culture. Depending on where they came from, will depend on how they live within their community. As men and women have separate roles in their own family.
It is extremely imperative that I do not judge their culture but be open to learning and understanding how I can better relate to my patients and be aware of the psychology of oppression as well as understanding their collective
