September 11, 2001 was a tragic day in The history of America. My dad told me that President Bush was reading stories to elementary school children in Florida while the United States was under attack by terrorists. On this day nineteen members of Al-Qaeda hijacked four planes and crashed them into important buildings in America. Two planes hit the World Trade Centers, and a third hit the Pentagon. The fourth plane, Flight 93, hit a field in Pennsylvania ("9/11 attacks" ). Flight 93, once the hijackers got into the cockpit, was headed towards the Capitol in Washington, DC. The hijackers wanted to kill or injure several thousand additional Americans. The passengers on the plane attacked the hijackers, and crashed the plane into the ground (Flight 93”). The passengers of Flight 93 were heroes for their bravery, intelligence, and altruism. The passengers of Flight 93 were very brave. …show more content…
It took brave people to charge straight at armed hijackers. The hijackers had knives, and a fake bomb that was made to look real.. Most people would have been scared, and would have thought only about themselves. There were so many things that could have gone wrong, and it took brave people to stop the terrorists (“Brave citizens take over hijacked Flight 93”). The movie, “Flight 93”, showed that the passengers on the flight were not afraid. They were calling home, gathering information, and developing a plan to takeover the cockpit from the hijackers. The famous quote from a passenger, when they decided as a group to attack the hijackers, was “let’s roll”. Once the passengers began charging to the front of the plane, there was no turning back. The passengers of Flight 93 were also very intelligent. While the plane was being hijacked, the hijackers strapped a fake bomb to one of the men. The purpose of the bomb was to keep the passengers from getting too close to the hijackers.. After the terrorists took control of the plane, the passengers called their families on cell phones, and they started to talk with them about all of the other hijacked flights. All of the other flights supposedly had bombs too, but none of the other bombs were blowing up. As a result, the passengers realized that the bomb likely was fake (“Flight 93”). “Then the passengers came up with a good idea to take over the plane. They got the boiling water used for coffee, and put it on the cart that the flight attendants used to bring people in-flight snacks and drinks. The passengers charged at the hijackers, and they started to pour the boiling hot water on them. The passengers tried to gain control of the plane, but they could not and the plane crashed into a field (“Flight 93”). The passengers of Flight 93 were also altruistic. Altruism is defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as “an unselfish regard for or devotion to the welfare of of others.” The passengers showed altruism by sacrificing themselves for others. When the passengers overtook the plane and crashed it into the ground, they saved all of the innocent people who were in and near the Capitol building (“What really happened to flight 93”). It says in John 15:13, “there is no greater
