1984: Administration's Anti-Family Policies

Decent Essays
I decided to run for President in 1984 because I could no longer stand this administration's anti-family policies.
Over the course of 2 1/2 years we've seen unemployment increase, unions weakened, no raise in the minimum wage, an arms race and tragedy in Lebanon and Grenada.
President Reagan has clearly failed as President and we must oust him out of the White House in 1984.
But to do that, we need a robust platform that says if you work you should be able to come home with enough income to support your family.
We should increase the minimum wage and strengthen unions and their relationships with businessmen and farmers.
Another policy I would enact is to start paying farmers fairly for their production and use whatever surplus is left

Minimum wage is a relatively new concept in the labour market. It was created with the idea that minimum wage will be a stepping stone into a better paying job in mind. As the years have gone by, minimum wage jobs have evolved from supporting teenagers and giving them the necessary experience in the work field to supporting families. It’s this change in dynamics that fuels the argument that minimum wage should increase to a living wage. What people fail to realize is that minimum wage exists for a reason and should it be increased; the positive impacts are outweighed by the negative impacts in the economy.…

A person truly cannot feel safe while being ‘protected’ by a government that cares for only themselves. There has been a long history of governmental greed that harks back to even the creation of humans since greed has been in our hearts since the very beginning. The exceptionally blunt example is Orwell’s novel “1984”, a clear depiction of a government’s power being misused in favor of their own aspirations. Orwell wrote this novel to express a truth in government and to predict the future that may come from totalitarianism. When a person compares “1984” to the history of man, it provides a distinct connection to one another by using common human actions and desires in a dark, truthful way.…

Sitcoms are a window into the mindset of mainstream America as they move from a very idealistic portrayal of society to a more realistic one, highlighting how American society is becoming more accepting of difference. Sitcoms are the comedic, thirty minute television shows in which the episodes can be viewed alone and still be understood, as long as one has the basic background of the main characters. This formulation was an instant success with the introduction of I Love Lucy in 1951. Sitcoms of the far past, and the ones of today are quite representative of the time periods that they take place in, yet they do still emphasize an idealistic version of society, especially the early ones. Sitcoms such as I Love Lucy and Growing Pains demonstrate…

think that raising the minimum wage is going to do more bad than good to the people and the economy. First of all, raising the minimum wage will make prices go up, and that’s going to hurt everyone not just those on a minimum wage job. Also, when raising the minimum wage, employers will want to hire someone who’s really good at what they’re doing in order to afford their wage and eliminate the number of people who are working for them. Third, most minimum wage workers are in real need of the job and do not have a degree or other choice except this job, so raising the wage will make it harder for them to get the job they’re in need for. Lastly, increasing the minimum wage will make workers not do their best at the job in order to get promoted.…

By trying to fix our problem there is a thin line between what will help and what could end up doing more harm than good and even possibly pushing us into another recession. What some people suggest is drastically increasing the minimum wage something that I do not believe would help, but in the end hurt citizens in poverty. Instead of trying so hard to increase minimum wage people should be trying to better themselves into jobs that don 't pay minimum wage. Also, raising the minimum wage will cause people to have less drive to do better and find something more important than an entry level…
