The Congressional Budget Office reports that an increase of the federal minimum wage to $10.10 would cumulatively boost incomes of people below the federal poverty line by $5 billion. It would immediately reduce the poverty rate among America's nonelderly population by 1.7 percent (Congressional Budget Office). Over time, the reduction would be 2.5 percent. That's 4.6 million people lifted out of poverty immediately, and 6.8 million people over time.
